NGO Policy Group
The NGO Policy Group is a community of practice. It is on-going consultation with local and international NGO representatives in Serbia through debates, focus groups, interviews, on-line discussions, round tables, surveys and analysis of primary and secondary data.
Mission Statement:
NGO Policy Group is an independent voluntary consultative body gathering NGO practitioners and professionals who share a strong interest in development of an efficient, accountable and transparent NGO sector in Serbia. NGO Policy Group is a merger of knowledge, experience and interest of individuals and organizations and is not
owned by any single organization or individual. It promotes cooperation within the Third Sector and with the public and private sectors. Through an intense and interactive
communication and consultation with NGOs and relevant institutions, NGO Policy Group strives to present an articulate NGO voice at the policy table.
Goal:
Promote constructive engagement and collective dialogue among NGOs and government institutions aimed at creating accountable social partnerships.
Key Relationships and Main Objectives (January - April)
- With local research community - conduct an in depth survey of 1,200 local NGOs
- With local NGOs - design the first Third Sector development and operation strategy
- With ICVA & international NGOs - communicate key ideas, timeframe and concerns of international agencies and the donor community back to local NGOs in a timely manner to impact strategic thinking on both sides
- With DACU, local self-governance & local NGOs - map NGO-Government relations at local and national level and assist in design of a strategy to improve cooperation at all levels
Methodology:
- In depth survey of NGOs, evaluative research, monitoring and documentation of socio-economic policy developed by the Government of Serbia
- Networking, advocacy and participatory civic engagement promoting poverty reduction and sustainable socio-economic development of Serbia
- Public education, awareness raising and information sharing to enhance understanding of favorable and effect change of unfavorable policies.
Since January 2001, NGO Policy Group has:
- Conduct six regional meetings involving over 150 NGO representatives throughout Serbia
- Analyze vital statistics and other socio-economic data for six regions in Serbia
- Systematize proposed models for NGO - Government cooperation at different levels
- Establish contacts with the local research community
- Design scope for in depth survey of NGOs
- Prepare on-line discussion for start up on March 1
- Work on Regional NGO Meetings Report to be disseminated to all NGOs listed in the Directory of the Center for the Development of the Nonprofit Sector
- Consult or exchange information with the World Bank, DfID, UNDP, OCHA, ICVA
